PHOENIX — The East Valley suburb of Gilbert was deemed to be the fastest-growing city in Arizona, based on population and economic factors, by a personal finance website.

Gilbert checked in at No. 49 on WalletHub’s list of “2018’s Fastest-Growing Cities in America,” which was released Monday.

Scottsdale was second in Arizona and No. 59 nationally. Surprise, at No. 73, was the only other place in the state to make the top 100.

Phoenix came in at No. 105 in the nation, fourth highest in Arizona.

Other Arizona cities ranked were: No. 120 Mesa, No. 125 Tempe, No. 137 Avondale, No. 158 Peoria, No. 237 Glendale, No. 300 Chandler, No. 344 Yuma and No. 427 Tucson.

The list was compiled by comparing 515 cities in two categories: sociodemographics and jobs/economy.

The former includes three aspects of population growth, and the latter covers 12 economic indicators, including job growth and household income.

Fort Myers, Florida, was No. 1 overall, and Decatur, Illinois, brought up the rear at No. 515.
