Gilbert residents will see utility rates increase next month

PHOENIX — Residents in the Phoenix-area city of Gilbert will see their utility rates rise next month after the town council approved utility rate changes, it was announced Tuesday.

City officials announced in an email that residents will see changes in their water, wastewater and environmental services utilities. The rate changes will go into effect on Nov. 1.

The rate changes were put in place after officials determined that they were needed to keep the funds balanced with expenses over the next few years.

Residents can see how the rate change will effect them using an online utility bill calculator.

Eric Braun, Gilbert’s water resource manager, told KTAR News 92.3 FM in July that residents will see an average rate increase of $8 per month.

“Our strong financial management has allowed us to keep those rates constant,” Eric Braun, Gilbert’s water resource manager, said.

“Now, in order to keep those best-in-class services, we need to adjust our water, sewer and trash rates.”

Braun said the last time the city raised utility rates on its residents was in 2009.
