There’s a good chance your phone could be stolen and never returned

According to a new study, one in 10 Americans have fallen victim to mobile phone theft.

What’s more? A whopping 70 percent of those never get their devices back.

In response, the California state Senate is considering a bill that would require phones sold in the state to have a “kill switch” in order to protect the data stored on a lost or stolen device.

The aforementioned study points out that 16 percent of phone thefts occur in restaurants, 11 percent in workplaces and bars or nightclubs, 6 percent on public transit and 5 percent on the street.

Also included in the study: More than 30 percent of phone theft victims are willing to pay up to $1,000 to retrieve data from their device.
