Some teachers in Arizona may be going untrained in the use of social media, but others across the United States are embracing it as a new way to connect with their students.

According to NBC News, one of those teachers, Chris Lazarski, uses Twitter regularly in his classroom.

Lazarski likes to introduce topics to his classes at Wauwatosa West High School in Milwaukee before urging his students to continue the discussion on Twitter.

“Keep tweeting — it’s free,” he said. “Keep those comments going.”

His classroom is part of a nationwide effort by San Francisco television station KQED to push both teachers and students to not only learn social media, but to embrace it and use it as an effective communication tool.

Would you like your child to learn social media in school or is that a discussion better suited for home?
