Our first patient story is about Christian, a 14-month-old with paralysis of arms.

Christian was 10 months old when he was suddenly stricken with paralysis.

Neurologists are not certain of the cause, but Christian was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation – structural defects in the cerebellum, the part of the brain that controls balance.

The thought was he wouldn’t be able to move his arms again but he is now beginning to get movement in them.

The recent affiliation between Barrow Neurological Institute and Phoenix Children’s Hospital made our neurosciences program the second-largest in the nation.
