Police question man in tactical gear on Interstate 10 in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A man dressed in black tactical gear was questioned by police Wednesday in Phoenix among fears he may be the Interstate 10 shooter.

The authorities responded in force when the man was seen near I-10 and 43rd Avenue. Numerous officers and vehicles surrounded him.

At least one lane was blocked for a short time and rush-hour traffic was bogged down in the area as drivers tried to sneak a peek.

Police are offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of a person who may have opened fire on at least 10 cars traveling on I-10 since late August.

Arizona Department of Public Safety Director Col. Frank Milstead called the shootings an “act of cowardliness,” saying “people’s lives are at risk.”
