Phoenix crash leaves 1 woman dead, impairment expected to be factor

Phoenix police are investigating after a woman was hit by a car while crossing the street on Monday, authorities said.

PHOENIX — Phoenix police are investigating after a woman was hit by a car while crossing the street on Monday, authorities said.

The Phoenix Police Department arrived at the crash site near 17th Avenue and Buckeye Road at about 7:45 p.m.

An adult woman, identified as 46-year-old Christina Hertzbach, was transported to a hospital where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.

After initially investigating the area, detectives believe Hertzbach was attempting to cross Buckeye Road and was halfway across when she was struck by a vehicle headed westbound.

The driver remained at the scene of the crash and impairment is believed to be a factor, according to authorities.

A charging decision will come after the investigation is complete.
