PHOENIX — Amazon began its drone delivery service in metro Phoenix on Tuesday.
The e-commerce company received permission from the Federal Aviation Administration to conduct “Prime Air” deliveries from its Tolleson facility located near 107th Avenue and Van Buren Street.
Customers in the West Valley can receive more than 50,000 items via drone deliveries in less than an hour. However, drone deliveries will only occur during daylight hours, the company said.
The MK30 drones are able to deliver packages that weigh fewer than five pounds and are also able to deliver in various weather conditions, including light rain.
Amazon announced its plans to start delivering via drones in metro Phoenix in April.
How much will Amazon drone deliveries cost?
A service fee of $9.99 will be charged to Prime members and $14.99 for all other customers.
Upon checking out, customers can see if their order is eligible for optional drone delivery.
The online retail-giant launched its drone delivery service in College Station, Texas, and Lockeford, California, in 2022.
Walmart also offers delivery via drone in the Phoenix metro area.
