PHOENIX – US News & World Report has named Arizona State University the nation’s top college for innovation for the 10th consecutive year.

However, the Tempe school’s cohort to the south, the University of Arizona, took over the state’s top spot in the website’s overall rankings for 2025, which were released this week.

Princeton University retained the No. 1 spot in the annual rankings.

U of A was ranked No. 109 overall, up from No. 115 a year ago. The Tucson school got its highest grade in the Management Information Systems category, checking in at No. 2 behind only Carnegie Mellon University.

“I am happy to see the University of Arizona’s position improve across so many different categories,” U of A President Robert C. Robbins said in a press release.

Where does ASU rank on the overall US News list for 2025?

ASU, meanwhile, sits in the No. 121 spot on the new national list, 16 spots below last year’s ranking. The Tempe school has been No. 1 in the innovation category, which is based on a survey of officials at peer institutions, every year since US News & World Report introduced it into its annual college rankings.

“Receiving the top innovation ranking from our peers for a decade is significant, as it affirms that our enterprise-wide innovation mindset is deeply tied to our institutional identity,” ASU President Michael M. Crow said in a press release.

One other Arizona school was included in the national rankings. Northern Arizona University came in at No. 244,

Grand Canyon University does not participate in the US News & World Report rankings.

The website also compiles regional rankings for colleges that focus on undergraduate education but grant under half of their degrees in liberal arts. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott was ranked No. 1 in the west region.

“We’re thrilled that Embry-Riddle’s Prescott campus continues to be recognized as the best in the West,” said Ken Witcher, chancellor of the Prescott campus, said in a release. “Our top rankings highlight that we are providing our students with a world-class undergraduate education focused on real-world problem solving and applied research.”
