PHOENIX – Unidentified human remains were found on a northwest Phoenix mountain on Monday, authorities said.
Officers responded to an unknown trouble call at the Deem Hills Recreation Area near 51st Avenue and Happy Valley Road around 7:15 a.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.
“When officers arrived, they were told by a witness they believed there were human remains on a remote area on a mountain. Several resources were used to locate and direct investigators to the area of the found remains,” Sgt. Phil Krynsky said in a media advisory.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to process the remains and establish an identity, police said.
No other information was made available. The investigation is ongoing.
It was the second time in recent weeks that unidentified remains were found at a Phoenix recreation area.
A hiker found human remains off a trail at South Mountain Park and Preserve on July 27.
