PHOENIX — A driver suspected of being impaired wound up in a Chandler lake early Thursday and allegedly lied to police about what happened, authorities said.
Witnesses reported seeing a vehicle crash into a neighborhood lake near Ray and Dobson roads around 2 a.m., the Chandler Police Department said.
When officers arrived, a person was swimming out of the lake, which is in the Andersen Springs community. The subject told officers that somebody else had been driving, police said.
Fire and police personnel went into the lake to search for a person they thought was trapped in the vehicle but didn’t find anyone.
Police eventually determined that the person who’d been in the lake was the only occupant when the vehicle went into the water.
The subject, whose name and sex were not released, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and false reporting, police said.
No other information was immediately available.
