PHOENIX — The Surprise Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting after a man was killed when allegedly attempting suicide by stabbing himself with a knife on Saturday.
Goodyear officers responded to a home near Estrella Mountain Ranch where they saw Adam Romero, 26, in the backyard with a knife, police said in a press release.
Officers told Romero, who was seen standing near a puddle of blood, to drop the weapon, but he continued to approach them while wielding the knife.
One of the officers fired their duty weapon and provided aid to Romero until he was taken to a hospital where he later died.
No officers were injured, authorities said.
The investigation remains ongoing and is being conducted by the West Valley Investigative Response Team.
No additional information was made available.
