PHOENIX — The Phoenix Police Department released video Friday of a suspect who fatally shot two people and injured more before turning the gun on himself last month.
Isaiah Steven Williams, 24, exited his room at the Days Inn motel near 27th Avenue and Deer Valley Road at about 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 28 armed and in tactical gear.
Video (WARNING: Graphic Content) shows Williams leaving the hotel out of a side door and immediately shooting an automatic rifle at nearby vehicles and buildings.
A white vehicle then pulled into the hotel parking lot and Williams took aim, shooting at the car.
Two of the vehicle’s occupants, 36-year-old Misael Arevalo and 44-year-old Karla Garzona, suffered gunshot wounds and died from their injuries.
Three more people were able to escape the shots and fled toward a nearby gas station.
Williams then tried to throw a Molotov cocktail at the window of a Waffle House in the same complex but it did not break the glass or start a fire.
The suspect continued randomly shooting until officers arrived.
Williams fired at the officers, injuring two. One took a bullet to the shoulder and the other was pelted by shrapnel, including to the face.
The officer with the wounded shoulder managed to get out of the patrol vehicle and return fire as backup units pulled up. Four patrol units were sprayed with bullets.
The shots eventually stopped and police located Williams dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
More than 200 shell casings were found at the scene, police said.
