PHOENIX — Mesquite Fresh Street Mex recently announced its first drive-thru, walk-up concept will open in Gilbert this month.

The new location at 4875 S. Val Vista Drive is set to open on March 19 at 11 a.m. It is the first of three drive-thru concepts the local street tacos chain plans to open this year, the others being in Laveen and Avondale.

“We are thrilled to expand the Mesquite brand in Arizona by adding drive-thru and walk-up only locations across the Valley,” Ahmad Alatrash, co-founder of Mesquite Fresh Street Mex, said in a press release. “There is a demand for attaining authentic cuisine in a convenient way and these grab-and-go designs will deliver our famous tacos, burritos and protein bowls for people on the move.

“We look forward to connecting with Gilbert residents and sharing our authentic meets modern Mexican concept with the neighborhood.”

Mesquite Fresh Street Mex, formerly Mr. Mesquite, plans to celebrate the new Gilbert location with various giveaways, including awarding multiple people free burritos for a year.

On opening day and throughout the week, the chain will randomly give away tickets to 10 guests that can be redeemed for the free burritos as part of a “golden ticket” promotion.

Other giveaways include branded stadium cups, hats, shirts and bumper stickers, according to the release.

The 1,368-square-foot location also allows people to get food from a walk-up window and eat under a large covered outdoor patio.

The new concept will feature the chain’s signature custom-built mesquite grill that is found at its other eight locations across the Valley, which uses real mesquite wood chips to give the meat a smoky flavor, according to the release.
