PHOENIX — Three men were arrested Sunday in connection to a string of catalytic converter thefts in Chandler, authorities said.
Jesus Banuelos, Roberto Canez and Tevon Kroncke were arrested near Gilbert Road and Chandler Boulevard on Sunday morning after fleeing from police, according to the Chandler Police Department.
The men were allegedly in the process of stealing a converter from a truck outside a residence near Alma School Road and Erie Street at about 6:15 a.m. when they were confronted by the vehicle’s owner.
They pointed weapons at the victim before driving away in a black BMW, police said.
Police attempted to pull over the vehicle on Chandler Boulevard, but the victims fled to a nearby commercial business area, where they were arrested, according to police.
Officers located a firearm, 10 catalytic converters and a battery-operated saw inside the BMW, police said.
The three suspects, all Phoenix residents, were also linked to two other catalytic converter thefts in Chandler on Sunday, according to police.
