PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo announced on Monday three species have been born in separate habitats during the past few weeks.
A female Arabian oryx calf, a male desert bighorn lamb ram and a female Masai giraffe were the newest additions to the zoo, according to a press release.
The parents of the oryx calf are Debbie and sire Justin, while the bighorn is the offspring to Shawnee and sire Captain Jack Sparrow, who arrived to the zoo in 2019 as part of the Desert Bighorn Sheep Species Survival Plan.
The giraffe is the third calf for mother Sunshine and the fourth calf sired by father Miguu. His father came from the Los Angeles Zoo in 2010.
The oryx calf and bighorn ram are in their respective habitats, while the zoo has yet to release the giraffe into its savanna.
The zoo anticipates the giraffe calf and its mother will be in their barn bonding for the new few weeks.
The Phoenix Zoo hours are currently 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with member entry at 8 a.m.
