PHOENIX – Developers of the Paradise Valley mall makeover said the first phase of the project will open in mid-2024 and feature upscale apartments, three restaurants and a dine-in Harkins Theatre.
RED Development said in a Tuesday press release the mixed-use site near Cactus Road and Tatum Boulevard will be called PV.
Ground will be broken on the 400-unit apartment building before the end of February, the company said.
Floor plans are for one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments starting at 504 square feet and topping out at 1,750 square feet. The living set-ups boast walk-in closets, 10-foot ceilings, patios and balconies with views, RED said.
Other first-phase elements include a Whole Foods grocery store, a 3-acre park and a pavilion.
The chosen restaurants will be announced at a later date.
The project will be built out in multiple stages, developers said.
“The overall vision of this redevelopment is guided by the sentiment of honoring the more than 40-year history and legacy of the former mall and its significance in the neighborhood,” Mike Ebert, managing partner at RED, said in the release.
The mall opened in 1978 and closed in spring 2021, with only the Costco and JCPenny remaining in business.
Demolition of the Paradise Valley Mall began in July, about six months after the Phoenix City Council approved a rezoning plan for the 92 acres.
