PHOENIX — Arizona Opera on Monday announced its 2022-23 season, featuring five in-theater productions in Phoenix and Tucson.

Season tickets go on sale beginning Feb. 23 for current subscribers before opening to new subscribers on April 18, according to a press release.

The season begins with two McDougall RED Series productions taking place at Herberger Theatre Center in Phoenix and the Temple of Music and Art in Tucson.

The first production is “The Falling and the Rising,” which will run Oct. 14-16 in Phoenix and Oct. 22-23 in Tucson.

Richard Strauss’ masterpiece “Ariadne auf Naxos” follows Dec. 2-4 in Phoenix and Dec. 10-11 in Tucson.

The main stage series then gets underway with productions at Symphony Hall in Phoenix and Tucson Music Hall.

The beloved classic “Tosca” runs Jan. 20-22 in Phoenix and Jan. 28-29 in Tucson.

The musical based on the Trapp family singers takes the stage with “The Sound of Music” in Phoenix on March 3-5 and in Tucson on March 11-12.

Arizona Opera’s productions for the season conclude with Mozart’s classic “The Magic Flute” on April 7-9 in Phoenix and April 15-16 in Tucson.

In addition to the five productions, Arizona Opera said it will offer a wide array of programs this season.

This includes the return of in-person music education programs and newly developed community programs.

There will also be in-person and virtual community engagement events, such as pre- and post-show lecture series, lunchtime recitals and public design classes.

“Arizona Opera has continually evolved over the past two years through the pandemic, and while we are still navigating the trials of this chapter, we recognize that the world needs art now more than ever,” Joseph Specter, company president and general director, said in the release.

“Arizona Opera is thrilled to offer a 2022-23 season that will serve Arizona with a mix of vibrant programming designed for our whole community, both on and off the stage.”

It was also announced Arizona Opera’s third world premiere will be “Frankenstein,” according to the release, with the story being told from the creature’s perspective and focusing on the horror of alienation.

The production will make its stage premiere in the 2023-24 season, according to the release, with people being able to track the progress online.
