PHOENIX — A woman from Cochise County was indicted for allegedly casting the early ballot of her dead mother during the 2020 election, Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced on Wednesday.
Krista Michelle Conner faces one count of illegal voting and one count of perjury after she allegedly signed the envelope of her mother’s early ballot and sent it in, according to a press release.
Conner’s mother died one month before she signed the envelope, according to the release.
Arizona law says a power of attorney is not a viable use for a person in any procedure concerning elections, including voting another person’s ballot.
Conner will make her next court appearance on Monday in Cochise County Superior Court, according to the release.
The Arizona Attorney General’s Office Election Integrity Unit handled the investigation of the case.
The indictment follows another woman, Tracey Kay McKee of Scottsdale, pleading guilty last week to also submitting her dead mother’s ballot.
