PHOENIX – California-based Mountain Mike’s Pizza has climbed over to Arizona, with the Grand Canyon State’s first location opening in Mesa.
The restaurant at the Mesa Riverview shopping center near Dobson Road and the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway had been aiming to debut before Christmas, but it didn’t actually open for business until Jan. 10.
“Everyone should have the chance to experience Mountain Mike’s iconic pizza, and we’re thrilled to bring the legacy concept and its legendary pizzas to Arizona for the first time,” Donte’ Andry of Pelican Food Concepts, owner and operator of the new location, said in a December press release.
The 3,550-square-foot Mesa restaurant offers dine-in, takeout or delivery options, with an arcade area and big-screen TVs.
In addition to pizzas up to the 20-inch “mountain” size, the menu includes wings, garlic bread, salads and mozzarella sticks, plus beer and wine selections.
The first Mountain Mike’s opened in Palo Alto, California, in 1978, and the brand has grown to more than 240 locations.
The company expects additional Arizona franchises to open in the first half of 2022 as part of an expansion that includes Colorado, Utah, Idaho and Texas.
“Mountain Mike’s continues to capture loyal fans throughout the West, and we’re ready to become a fixture for families and pizza fans in communities throughout Arizona, beginning with Mesa,” Jim Metevier, the company’s president and CEO, said in the release.
