PHOENIX – A Mesa school employee was arrested Thursday over an alleged sexual relationship with a teenage student in 2012.
Jacob Zamora, a 39-year-old member of the operations staff at Skyline High School, was booked on three counts of sexual conduct with a minor, according to court documents.
The victim, now 24, first contacted Mesa police on May 10 of this year. He said the inappropriate contact occurred from the summer of 2012 until October of that year, when he was 15-16 years old and entering 10th grade. Zamora was 30 at the time.
The victim said he consented to multiple sexual encounters with Zamora.
During an interview with police Thursday after being read his rights, Zamora admitted having sexual contact with the boy in 2012, according to the probable cause statement.
Mesa Public Schools assigned Zamora to home duties when the district learned about the allegations against him, the Mesa Police Department said in a press release.
Zamora isn’t a teacher. His job duties included assisting with lighting and stage events at the Skyline auditorium.
Police believe other students may have been victimized by Zamora. Anybody with information about similar incidents was asked to call the Mesa Police Department at 480-644-2211.
