PHOENIX — An Arizona man was arrested for his role in the Jan. 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., authorities said Wednesday.
Micajah Joel Jackson surrendered to authorities in Phoenix on Tuesday, according to a criminal complaint.
Jackson posted photos and videos from social media accounts associated with him on the day the Capitol was breached by rioters, according to the complaint.
An Instagram story from one of Jackson’s accounts showed him inside the Capitol on the day of the riots, the complaint says.
Investigators matched the accounts with Jackson’s driver’s license photograph, as well as a phone number and email address associated with the suspect.
The complaint also alleges Jackson appears in photographs walking with members of the far-right Proud Boys extremist group, but that he told investigators he is not affiliated.
Jackson was charged with knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority, and violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
Jackson’s attorney, Todd Romero, was in court and not immediately available to comment, according to his office.
More than 400 people have been charged so far in the siege.
That includes Arizona’s Jacob Chansley, also known as the “QAnon Shaman,” who has pleaded not guilty to felony charges of civil disorder and obstructing an official proceeding, plus four other misdemeanor charges.
