PHOENIX — Police in Mesa said they shot at a man who pointed an object in their direction during a foot chase Thursday, but the suspect was not injured.
A Mesa Police Department spokeswoman said officers on bicycles stopped a man riding a bike near Main Street and Extension Road around 8 p.m. to cite him for a traffic violation.
The man ran as officers approached him, Detective Brandi George said.
As he fled, police said he turned around and pointed an object at them.
Officers fired as the suspect headed into an apartment complex, where he was eventually taken into custody.
George said investigators found a flare gun wrapped in silver duct tape at the complex.
No other information was released.
It was the third shooting of the year that involved Mesa police and 14th overall by Valley law enforcement, according to KTAR News 92.3 FM research.
