PHOENIX – Police are searching for a suspect accused of sexually abusing a female Arizona State University student near the campus in Tempe on Wednesday night.
The woman was walking in the area of Lemon Street and Terrace Road around 6:45 p.m. when a man pushed her to the ground from behind and straddled her, according to a press release Thursday from the Tempe Police Department. The incident was reported to police about 45 minutes later.
The suspect, a white male in his 20s, allegedly then groped the woman on top of and under her clothing, police said. Her screams drew the attention of bystanders, who chased off the attacker, police said.
The suspect was last seen running eastbound on Lemon.
He was described as about 6 feet, 3 inches tall with short hair and was wearing a dark tank top, blue jeans, a black face mask and a shoulder bag.
Anybody with information about the incident was asked to call Tempe police at 480-350-8311.
