Stabbing leaves 29-year-old man dead outside Phoenix-area restaurant

Authorities are investigating a fatal stabbing that occurred outside a Phoenix-area restaurant late Saturday night.

Phoenix Police Department officers responded to reports of a stabbing near 24th Avenue and Thomas Road around 11:50 p.m., according to authorities.

Upon arrival, officers found 29-year-old Lonnie Shepherd Jr. lying on the ground outside the business suffering from at least one stab wound.

Phoenix Fire Department personnel took Shepherd to a local hospital, and he was pronounced dead.

Preliminary information suggests an altercation occurred between Shepherd and an unknown suspect near the restaurant, leading to the fatal stabbing.

Homicide and night detectives responded to process the crime scene and take over the investigation.

No suspect details or additional information were immediately released.
