PHOENIX — Authorities say a suspect known as the “Piggy Bank Bandit” robbed two U.S. Bank branches in Phoenix on Friday.
He has been accused of four other robberies in Mesa and Phoenix, in addition to the initial robbery in Tempe on Dec. 1.
The crimes on Friday occurred at the branches near the corner of Deer Valley Drive and Tatum Boulevard at 1 p.m. and near the corner of Seventh Street and Bell Road at 4:40 p.m., according to a release.
Dubbed the “Piggy Bank Bandit” due to leaving with coin rolls from one of the robberies, authorities say the suspect approached the teller during each of the incidents and presented a demand note.
The suspect, whose gender is unknown, is described as being between 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8 and 25 to 35 years old.
The person has been observed wearing a beanie-style hat, hooded sweatshirt, long pants, black-rimmed glasses, a black face mask and a backpack during the robberies, according to a press release.
A photo from one of the robberies in December found the suspect appears to have a tattoo on the left side of their neck.
According to a release, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force assigned to the case is comprised of the Phoenix Police Department, Peoria Police Department, Scottsdale Police Department, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office FATE team, Maricopa County Attorney’s Office and the FBI.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI’s Phoenix Field Office at 623-466-1999, 480-948-6377 for Silent Witness or submit tips online.
