PHOENIX — Joe Biden was sworn in as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday and Arizona political leaders were quick to share their thoughts on the historic event and the future of the country.
Politicians from both sides of the aisle took to social media to reveal their feelings about the inauguration, which looked different than normal because of coronavirus and added security measures.
Democratic U.S. Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly of Arizona congratulated Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, pledging to work closely with the new leaders over the next four years.

Kelly reaffirmed his pledge to work across the aisle.
Congratulations to our new President Joe Biden and our new Vice President Kamala Harris. There’s no shortage of challenges ahead of us, so I look forward to tackling them together with the new administration and Republicans and Democrats in the Senate.

Republican Gov. Doug Ducey, who attended the inauguration, laid out his vision for how he wants to work with the new administration.
Our state and nation are facing many challenges, and it’s critical that we work together to create jobs, educate our youth, protect public safety and distribute the vaccine. 2/2

We now have a President who has empathy, values the experiences of others, and will work hard to address the issues our nation faces.

Today we turn the page to a new and hopeful chapter of our history. As @POTUS said, "America has been tested, and we've come out stronger for it."
We have our work cut out for us, but I'm ready to get to work with this new Administration to deliver results for Arizona families. pic.twitter.com/CkPHhgJI3a

I work across the aisle to find bipartisan solutions to the problems #AZ01 families are facing. That's been a fact for the last four years and will be no different now. Today, we come together as one nation united against a deadly virus, not each other. https://t.co/sNJKpuwHxy

Arizona schools chief Kathy Hoffman said she was anticipating working with Biden and Harris on education advances for the state.

Arizona Republicans in Congress also offered their thoughts on the new administration.
U.S. Rep. Debbie Lesko, who voted to object to the certification of Biden’s win in Arizona, vowed in a tweet from her personal account that she would work with the Democratic leadership.
Congratulations to President Joe Biden on his inauguration. Although I didn't support his candidacy, I will work with him and his administration on items that we can agree on for the good of all Arizonans and Americans.

U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs, who also voted against certifying Arizona’s election results, criticized the Biden administration.
The Biden administration’s agenda will greatly expand the size of government, restrict freedoms, leave American interests and security woefully vulnerable, and diminish America’s standing in the world around us. https://t.co/PYmFyC3v7j

U.S. Rep. David Schweikert, the only GOP Congress member from Arizona who voted to certify Biden’s win in the state, said he was ready for the new session to get underway.
Congratulations to President Biden and Vice President Harris. I look forward to the 117th Congress getting to work on behalf of the millions of Americans we represent. https://t.co/h8sIXKNJuk
