PHOENIX — A restaurant and bar in Mesa is closed after a first-alarm fire on New Year’s Eve.

The Hub Grill and Bar near the intersection of Baseline and Sossaman roads will be closed until further notice after a fire broke out a few hours before midnight on Thursday, the owners announced on Facebook.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and found flames burning through a portion of the roof and smoke in the interior, according to authorities.

Crews attempted to fight the fire from inside, while ladder crews tried to open the roof and check for hidden fires.

Firefighters were called off the fire when a portion of the roof collapsed and the blaze was declared defensive, according to authorities.

Several ladder crews sprayed water from above to extinguish the fire burning through the roof.

Nobody was hurt in the fire, according to authorities.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Hub Grill and Bar also has another location in Mesa on Stapley Drive and another location named Union Grill and Tap in Gilbert on Higley Road.
