PHOENIX — It’s the most wonderful time of the year.
And with Christmas being on a Friday this year, Fountain Hills wants to help celebrate the holidays over the entire weekend.
Starting at the top of the hour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday, the fountain will light up in red, green and white for 15 minutes.
The new LED lights were installed as part of the fountain’s 50th anniversary after it was built to entice homebuyers to the then-isolated desert area in 1970.
The Fountain Hills fountain is located at 12925 N. Saguaro Blvd.
It once stood as the tallest in the world and is still the globe’s fourth-tallest today.
When running all three motors, water can shoot up as high as 560 feet.
The fountain usually runs on either one or two pumps, reaching 180-330 feet, and will not run if wind speeds exceed 15 mph.
