Crews determined the best course of action was a high angle rescue with a rope and pulley system.
They were able to lower the man down to a big wheel and then take him to an ambulance on scene.
The man suffered multiple lacerations and a broken wrist.
He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition for further treatment.
The horse was safely recovered and only suffered a minor cut.
No firefighters were injured in the rescue.
