Coronavirus cases at Arizona State University continue to decline

PHOENIX — For the fourth consecutive update, Arizona State University reported a decline in active coronavirus cases among students and faculty, according to a Monday update.
The university reported 260 active coronavirus infections among students and 3 active cases among faculty. In the update provided Thursday, the school had 355 active coronavirus cases among students and 5 active infections among faculty members.
Of the cases, 83 are in isolation on the Tempe campus where 9,202 students live, according to the university.
There are an additional 163 positive cases in isolation off campus in the metro Phoenix area. All remaining cases are in isolation on either the downtown Phoenix, west or polytechnic campuses.

ASU reported 91 new coronavirus cases among students and faculty, bringing the school’s total number of positive infections since the start of August to 1,701.
The university has collected approximately 60,955 coronavirus tests since Aug. 1, resulting in a 2.8% positivity rate among those tested.
In a twice-weekly update, ASU releases the cumulative number of positive cases reported among students and staff as well as the “cleared positives,” instead of solely reporting active cases.

The University of Arizona saw a slight uptick in the percentage of positive tests coming out of the weekend.
According to the school’s dashboard, the school reported 191 new cases on Monday, bringing the total to 2,149 infections. The institution reported a 10.4% positivity rate , up from Thursday’s positive rate of 6.1%; however, UArizona said Monday that no new students entered isolation over the weekend and 100 students were able to leave isolation to return to traditional housing.
The university has continued to see a decline in the seven-day average for cases, which was 162 on Monday. The seven-day average peaked on Sept. 16 at 181.
UArizona announced Monday only essential courses would continue to take place in-person until at least Oct. 2. The remaining classes have been online since the start of the semester.
The Arizona Department of Health Services on Monday reported 233 new coronavirus cases and 2 additional deaths, bringing the state’s documented totals to 214,251 COVID-19 infections and 5,478 deaths.
