PHOENIX – Three people at Red Mountain High School in Mesa have tested positive for coronavirus, according to a letter sent to parents Wednesday.

Red Mountain principal Casey Eagleburger said in the letter that two students and an adult participating on an athletic team had tested positive for the virus. The most recent date one of them was on campus was Sept. 14.

Because of the precautions the school has implemented like masks and physical distancing, they believe the exposure risk is minimal.

Red Mountain is part of Mesa Public Schools, which is Arizona’s largest school district. The district requires all students and staff to complete a daily home health assessment before coming to campus.

On Monday, the school started modified in-person learning. Students with the last names A-K would be in person for Monday and Thursday while students with last names L-Z would be on campus for Tuesday and Friday. All students are remote on Wednesdays.

The school said they are following the recommendations from the Maricopa County Health Department to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Last week, Maricopa County met all three coronavirus benchmarks to safely return to in-person learning for a third consecutive week.

State health officials recommends the benchmarks be at moderate or minimal community spread levels for at least two weeks to allow hybrid learning, which is a combination of in-class and online instruction.

We want to hear from you.
