UArizona using $1M donation to bolster nursing simulation training

PHOENIX — The University of Arizona will be using a seven-figure donation from two alumni to enhance simulation capabilities at its nursing colleges in Phoenix, Gilbert and Tucson.
Andrew and Kirsten Braccia gifted $1.5 million to the university, $1 million of which was designated for UArizona College of Nursing campuses, according to a press release.
“The University of Arizona College of Nursing has a long history of distinction among peer institutions, and this gift will help propel the college even further,” University of Arizona President Robert Robbins said in the release.
“Andrew and Kirsten have a deep commitment to the future of nursing and ensuring that nurses receive the best education possible, whether they are learning remotely or in person. I am very grateful for their partnership and support.”

UArizona will utilize the donation to upgrade its simulation facilities, purchase software subscriptions and acquire the technology necessary to facilitate virtual learning options.
“We are purchasing virtual reality equipment to provide our students the opportunity to experience some of these simulated patient encounters with even greater immersion,” Learning and Healthcare Technology Innovations Assistant Dean Steve Machtley said in the release.
“We have a vision of incorporating extended reality learning experiences throughout our curriculum, so this wonderful gift enables us to move forward in that direction.”
