Passenger killed, driver critically injured in crash involving semi-truck in Phoenix

A woman was killed and a man was critically injured in a crash involving a car and a semi-truck in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to the collision near 55th Avenue and Van Buren Street about 2:15 p.m., according to the Phoenix Police Department.

At least one person had to be freed from the wreckage, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.

Investigators determined that the car was making an improper U-turn when the collision occurred, police said.

The car’s driver, a 57-year-old man, and its passenger suffered life-threatening injuries. The passenger, 54-year-old Samdeta Sehic, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and did not show signs of impairment, police said.
