PHOENIX — A portion of Tempe Town Lake is reopening Saturday after being closed following a train derailment last month.
All areas on the north side of the lake that had been closed due to the July 29 derailment including Boat Beach, Lakeview Drive and the sidewalk will be accessible to both park and lake users, the city of Tempe said in a press release Friday.
The closures on the south side of the lake will remain closed, however, as crews work to clear debris and repair right-of-ways that were damaged by the derailment.
Those areas include the Rio Salado Parkway and the Beach Park parking lot off Ash Avenue, the city said in the release.
The park sidewalk from Beach Park to Elmore Pedestrian Bridge will also stay closed. Pedestrians and bicyclists will not be able to pass through.
The city reminds lake users to stay east of the yellow floating boom line at all times.
