PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University announced Monday students who moved off of campus because of the coronavirus outbreak could receive a partial housing credit.
In an email sent to students, GCU announced it would “provide a housing credit for those students who have moved off campus by the end of the day on Wednesday, March 25.”
The housing credit ranges from $260 (triple occupancy) to $450 (single occupancy). Students that continue to live in GCU student housing as of Wednesday will not be eligible for the credit.
In addition, the university said students who received GCU-funded scholarship money for being an on-campus resident will be able to keep their entire scholarship amount even if they have left campus.
“We want to thank all of our students who have already returned home, ensuring not only their own safety but the safety of their fellow students who are not able to leave campus, as well as the safety of GCU’s faculty and staff,” the email read. “Your efforts will help reduce the density of people on campus and help keep our campus community as safe as possible.”
GCU’s transition to online schooling began Monday in an effort to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
The Arizona health department reported 82 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday morning, pushing the state total to 234 positive coronavirus tests.
The death count remained at two, both in metro Phoenix.
