PHOENIX — Puddles and Cuddles are heading to their forever homes.
The two 6-month-old female Shar-pei puppies were nearly killed in a car accident earlier this year, according to a statement from the Arizona Humane Society.
Eight families showed up Tuesday morning when the dogs went up for adoption at AHS’ Sunnyslope Campus, so a drawing was held. Cuddles’ new home is in Chandler, and Puddles is now a Phoenix resident.
The pups avoided tragedy on Jan. 29 when a car crashed and caught fire at a QuikTrip in Mesa.
Members of the Mesa Fire Department quickly arrived and rescued the dogs from the burning vehicle.
The puppies were initially treated at an overnight clinic and then transferred to the AHS’ Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital, where they recovered from minor paw wounds.
Until their adoption, Puddles and Cuddles had been under protective custody at the nonprofit while the Mesa Police Department continued to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
