PHOENIX – Thousands of donations poured in Friday afternoon during KTAR News 92.3 FM’s annual Caring for Kids collection drive, presented by Canyon State Credit Union.

The seventh annual event was hosted by Gaydos in the Afternoon during a live broadcast from the Walgreens at McClintock Drive and Guadalupe Road, where Larry Gaydos was joined by Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Arizona Cardinals kicker Zane Gonzales was among Gaydos’ guests.

At the same time, other KTAR News personalities were on hand to collect donations at the Walgreens at Peoria and 59th avenues in Glendale.

The donations will benefit two groups: Child Crisis Arizona, which operates emergency shelters and trains foster families; and Arizona Helping Hands, which helps foster families who are providing homes for children in the state’s Department of Child Safety system.

Toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, kids clothing, bedding, toys and gift cards were among the items on the groups’ wish list.

Canyon State Credit Union contributed more than 150,000 diapers to the cause.

One couple, Victoria and Eric, told Gaydos they’ve adopted 12 children and been foster parents to 40. They said donations to Child Crisis Arizona and Arizona Helping Hands benefit families like theirs.

Donations for the drive were accepted all week at any Valley Walgreens and three Canyon State Credit Union locations, one in Goodyear and two in Phoenix.

We want to hear from you.
