The Phoenix Police Department announced that two officers have been put on leave while a criminal investigation is conducted into allegations against them.

The department became aware of the accusations last week. Preliminary information indicates the officers used force during a traffic stop on Aug. 5 at around 11:30 p.m. in south Phoenix and failed to report it or activate their body cams, authorities said in a statement on social media.

Despite the limited information, officials emphasized that both officers were immediately put on administrative leave pending further investigation.

The department’s Special Investigations Detail is conducting the criminal probe. Once it is complete, an administrative investigation will be done by the Professional Standards Bureau.

The department said that additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.

Neither of the officers were identified.
