PHOENIX – The 33rd World Gay Rodeo Finals will take place this week at the WestWorld of Scottsdale event facility.

The top 20 men and women in the International Gay Rodeo Association will compete Friday-Sunday in 11 traditional events plus three “camp events” unique to the circuit.

IGRA events are open to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual competitors and spectators.

Friday night’s activities begin at 6 p.m. with a western wear competition. That will be followed by opening ceremonies and a talent competition.

Rodeo events take place Saturday and Sunday starting at 9 a.m.

Contestants will test their skills in bull riding, ranch saddle bronc riding, steer riding, chute dogging, calf roping, mounted breakaway roping, team roping, barrel racing, pole bending and flag racing.

And for events you won’t see outside the gay rodeo circuit, there’s steer decorating, wild drag race and goat dressing.

More information, including schedules and event descriptions, is available at the IGRA website.

Entry will cost $15 at the gate, but single-day tickets can be purchased online for $10.

We want to hear from you.
