PHOENIX — A man too young to legally drink has been charged with DUI after driving the wrong way on Loop 101 in north Phoenix last weekend.

Garrett William Ruby, 20, was arrested on two counts of aggravated DUI and one count of felony endangerment, according to court documents.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety responded to multiple 911 calls early Sunday morning about a driver going eastbound on the westbound lanes of Loop 101 near Interstate 17.

Additionally, a Phoenix police lieutenant had to take evasive maneuvers to avoid colliding with the vehicle.

When officers made contact with Ruby, he was sitting in the driver seat with the key still in the ignition and had remnants of vomit on himself.

The troopers said he admitted he didn’t know where he was. Ruby said he’d been drinking at a house party in Tempe with friends and felt impaired while driving.

Ruby submitted to field sobriety tests, including a breath test which revealed he had a blood alcohol content of .124.

He is due back in court Sept. 23 for a status conference and then Sept. 25 for a preliminary hearing.
