PHOENIX — With just three major cities and good distance between them, Arizona seems a great place to explore in the summer.
In any case, a personal finance website doesn’t rate Arizona highly as a state to get in a vehicle and drive in the warm months of the year.
WalletHub ranked Arizona as the No. 37 best state as a summer road trip destination.
The ranking was spread across three main metrics — cost, safety and activities.
Arizona fell far behind in safety, ranking as the No. 47 state.
Arizona actually performed well in activities, ranking as the 15th-best state.
The state’s large amount of national park land, including Grand Canyon National Park, surely helped boost Arizona’s activities ranking.
Arizona was very average in the costs metric, finishing No. 24.
The best summer road trip destination was North Carolina, while the worst was Rhode Island.
