PHOENIX — Feeling down because the Arizona temperatures are rising? Don’t worry, a ranking says our state is one of the most fun in the country.
Personal finance website WalletHub ranked Arizona as the No. 14 most fun state to visit in the U.S.
The website analyzed 26 metrics in two key categories, entertainment/recreation and nightlife, to determine the states’ positioning.
Arizona ranked No. 8 in entertainment/recreation and No. 23 in nightlife.
Gonzalez said the state’s year-round offering of golf is one reason it ranked so high in entertainment/recreation.
“It does have some of the most golf courses and country clubs per capita,” she said. “It also did really well just in terms of fitness centers per capita, more areas for recreation and in great access to national parks.”
Gonzalez said the high cost of of going out in Arizona hurt it in the nightlife category.
“Overall, costs are getting pretty expensive,” she said.
“And in terms of average beer and wine prices, those things tend to be a little bit more expensive, too.”
She also said the state lagged in entertainment options such as music festivals and performing arts theaters.
The most fun state to visit was Arizona’s neighbor, California, while fellow Arizona neighbors Colorado (No. 5) and Nevada (No. 6) also ranked high.
The least fun state to visit in the country? West Virginia.
