Phoenix Zoo wants help naming baby reindeer visiting for holidays
PHOENIX – They didn’t pull any sleighs, but four reindeer have landed at the Phoenix Zoo. And one of them needs a name.
The zoo has opened a reindeer village for the holidays, where visitors can get an up-close look at – and photo opportunities with – adults Frosty, Snowflake and Velvet along with a nameless 6-month-old female.
Zoo workers narrowed the options down to their three favorite names for the young calf – Flurry, Noel and Caribae – but the public gets the final word.
Anybody who votes online by Nov. 26 at midnight will have a chance to win a prize package of one family membership, four tickets to ZooLights, four tickets to the “Bugs. BIG BUGS!” exhibit and a photo with the reindeer.
Don’t worry about the animals being so far from the North Pole during the holiday season. They are actually visiting from a Southern California petting zoo.
The reindeer will be on display at the Phoenix Zoo in the daytime and during ZooLights until Jan. 13.
This year’s version of ZooLights debuts Wednesday and runs nightly until Jan. 13.
