Phoenix Zoo’s annual holiday ZooLights kicks off on Wednesday

PHOENIX — You’ve caroled about Rudolph for years, but have you ever seen an actual reindeer?

At the Phoenix Zoo, you can visit four of them — Frosty, Velvet, Snowflake and a yet-to-be-named baby reindeer — as part of the annual ZooLights event.

Zoolights kicks off on Wednesday and will run every night 5:30-10:30 p.m. through Jan. 13.

The zoo will be decked out with millions of holiday lights and a three-story holiday tree.

The Arizona State University marching band and color guard will perform Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the tree lighting.

Also featured are opportunities to pet 20 cownose rays at Stingray Bay, showings of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” in the 4-D theater, a light show around the lake set to holiday music and an exhibit of 21 animatronic bugs.

The zoo encourages guests to purchase tickets in advance online. Prices range from about $11 to $22.
