Phoenix police look for suspects in 2017 road-rage shooting, 2016 robbery

Tempers flaring and bullets flying on a Valley freeway.

“No matter who is right or wrong in a road rage incident, it’s never worth escalating it to the point where shots are fired or even an accident is caused,” Phoenix Police Detective Kim Neis said.

This dangerous encounter happened on Thursday, June 1, 2017, at about 7 p.m. when other drivers became potential victims. It was on westbound Interstate 10 approaching 35th Avenue.

You may have seen the two vehicles.

“The victims were driving a newer white Honda Accord,” Neis said, “and the suspect vehicle was a mid-2000s silver Chevy Trailblazer with Arizona plates and dark-tinted windows.”

The driver of that Trailblazer pulled out a silver handgun and fired at the Honda, striking one of the people inside.  That person was hit in the shoulder and should recover. The SUV was last seen getting off the freeway at 35th Avenue.

Next, an armed robbery at a hotel popular with business travelers near University and I-10. It was Saturday night about 9 p.m. on Oct. 22, 2016.

“The suspect entered the Extended Stay America Hotel and he approached the clerk, showed the clerk a gun, the clerk complied with all his demands and gave him the money,” Neis said.

The robber had a trimmed goatee and was wearing a blue hoodie with faded jean shorts. He fled on foot, which means he may live in the area or he could have hidden his car out of sight before the heist.
