U.S. Rep. Andy Biggs talks to host Jim Sharpe about running for governor, his daughter's political ambitions and more on this week's AZ Political Podcast.

Watch: AZ Political Podcast: Is Andy Biggs ready to be Arizona's next governor? | 30 mins

I start my interview with Congressman Andy Biggs (my guest on this week’s AZ Political Podcast) with a rewind to the first time I interviewed him — and, boy, was it embarrassing. So much so that I bet he wishes you could actually burn YouTube files. (I know I do.)

We get down to serious business pretty quickly, however, and talk about his run for governor (we are exactly one year from the primary election!); how he believes his time in Washington has proven he’ll part ways with President Donald Trump — when necessary — if he’s elected governor; and how he’d govern differently than incumbent Gov. Katie Hobbs.

We also hit on every politician’s least favorite topic: fundraising. Rep. Biggs admits he likes meeting people at fundraisers but then hates having to ask them for money. It’s a necessary evil if you want to run for office, however.

And, we talk about whether politics is becoming the family business with his daughter, Mylie, now running for the same state Senate seat that he once held.

If she wins — and he wins the governor’s office — that could make for some really interesting Thanksgivings. Especially if she opposes him on any of his legislative efforts. If he was correct in describing her (“her own person”), I might look to get an invite to Thanksgiving 2027 at the Biggs house.
