A Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient was at her Tucson home Monday when officers with Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained her, according to U.S. Rep. Adelita Grijalva.
The Democrat said she visited Karla Toledo to confirm she was being held at the facility.
“Karla Toledo was aggressively taken out of her home by ICE,” Grijalva said in a social media video posted Monday evening.
Grijalva went to the Tucson ICE facility after Toledo’s family was unable to determine her whereabouts. Now she is calling on ICE to release Toledo immediately and “stop terrorizing” Arizona communities.
“Karla has legal status in this country. She is a member of our community, has dedicated herself to education, advocacy, is regularly an interpreter for other people. She’s part of foundations,” Grijalva said in the video.

Grijalva accuses ICE of detaining DACA recipient
Like fellow Democratic U.S. Reps. Greg Stanton and Yassamin Ansari, both of Arizona, Grijalva has been outspoken in criticizing ICE and pushing for greater oversight and reforms.
She has also been directly involved in protests, including a 2025 demonstration in Tucson where federal agents used pepper spray and tear gas on a crowd. Grijalva said she was exposed to the chemical spray during the incident, though federal officials dispute that account.
After posting the Monday video, Grijalva released a written statement, saying federal agents entered Toledo’s home without a warrant.
“ICE’s blatant disregard for the rule of law and due process is outrageous and completely out of line,” Grijalva said in the statement. “We live in a country where everyone has constitutional rights, no matter how hard ICE tries to trample on them. Karla must be released immediately, and ICE must stop terrorizing our communities.”
