ICE will ‘flood’ cities that limit immigration enforcement, Tom Homan says in Phoenix speech

Border czar Tom Homan on Tuesday threatened to send more ICE agents into states that pass laws limiting federal immigration enforcement.

“You’re gonna see collateral arrests increase in these areas. You’re gonna see more agents in your neighborhoods because you forced us in this position,” Homan said during a speech in Phoenix.

He specifically called out New York. The state’s Democratic-led Legislature is advancing legislation designed to declaw federal immigration enforcement and protect undocumented immigrants from deportation.

“So, what’s gonna happen to places like New York and these other people that wanna pass this ridiculous legislation not to work with us? We’re gonna flood the zone,” Homan said. “You’re gonna see more ICE agents than you’ve ever seen before.”

Some of New York’s new legislation would limit how police departments can coordinate with ICE. The bills would ban 287(g) agreements, a method ICE uses to delegate certain immigration-related functions to local law enforcement agencies. They would also prevent taxpayer‑funded local resources and personnel from being used to carry out federal civil immigration enforcement.

“Places like New York, which are getting ready to sign legislation to end all 287 agreements, making it illegal for any sheriff to give us a bed, let us buy a bed to house an illegal alien? Here’s what they need to understand: We’re not gonna stop doing the job,” Homan said.

He went on to say that cities and states that try to pass similar laws are trying to release public safety threats into communities.

“I don’t wanna hear this crap when these mayors and governors say, ‘Well, we’re a sanctuary. … We want illegal alien victims and witnesses of crime to feel safe coming to law enforcement to report those crimes,'” Homan said.

He dismissed that line of thinking with an expletive.

“Victims and witnesses of crime don’t want the bad guy back in the neighborhood, either. They want the bad guy off the street,” Homan said. “They’re the victim. That’s why they’re a witness. They want the bad guy locked up, too.”
