A wall of dust made its way through the Valley on Saturday afternoon with rain and storms following it, weather officials said.
The National Weather Service for Phoenix said the dust wall was created near Gila Bend by a cluster of storms around 11:50 a.m. before moving east and northeast.
Around an hour later, it was entering the West Valley and brought wind gusts of up to 35 to 45 mph with it.
Showers and storms trailed the wall and caused the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a ground stop at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport until 2:30 p.m.
The Arizona Department of Transportation reminded motorists to never drive into a dust storm and to follow its Pull Aside, Stay Alive tips.
The rain and storms are expected to stick around in metro Phoenix until Sunday afternoon before tapering off.
The weather activity is due to remnants of Tropical Cyclone Rachel combining with a low pressure system over the West Coast.
